The short version
Ribbon runs on your Mac. It has no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it never reads what's inside your windows.
What Ribbon sees
To arrange your windows, Ribbon uses the Accessibility permission you give it in System Settings. Through it, Ribbon reads each window's position, size and title and the name of its app, and moves and resizes windows. It never reads a window's contents, and none of this leaves your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
Your settings, rules and the order of your strip are kept in Ribbon's preferences. Ribbon also writes a log of what it does (app names, window moves and timings) to ~/Library/Logs/Ribbon/, so problems can be found; it stays on your Mac unless you choose to send it.
What goes online
- Updates: Ribbon checks for new versions and, when there is one, downloads it and checks its signature before installing. The check names the app and its version; nothing about you is sent.
- Licence: when you activate or deactivate a licence key, Ribbon sends the key to Polar's licence service.
Buying
Payments are handled by Polar, the merchant of record. They process your name, email address and payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address and order details so we can send your licence and help with support.
This website
This site uses no cookies. It counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which records the page, referrer, country and device type without cookies or any identifier that follows you across sites or days. It also measures how fast pages load with Vercel Speed Insights, which records timings and the device type, again without cookies or identifiers. None of this applies to the app itself.
